We miss you, man!
RideRichmond today announced Richmond’s first annual Bike-Week. The events have a soft opening with Track Racing at Southside Speedway on 04/12 and the official kick-off ceremony starts on 04/13.
Lots of great events, and you can view the full schedule here!
SSBC is proud to be hosting both another Safety Dance Party at Cellar Door on 04/15 (Friday), as well as an Alleycat on 04/17 (Sunday). More details to follow shortly!
And don’t forget about our Tweed Ride on 04/20 either!
Over the past couple of months, RideRichmond has been working with RVA Bike Polo on drafting a proposal to re-cycle and re-use the tennis courts at Abner Clay Park.
RVA Bike Polo has been active in the City for over 5-years and neither them nor Roller Hockey have a proper home. This is the first attempt to re-appropriate under used space (nearly everyone who plays tennis plays at Randolph or Byrd Park) and give these groups a place of their own.
Richmond Times-Dispatch has featured an article today on the very subject and fund-raising goals. You can see it in today’s paper (section B4) or view it online here. Show your support and comment!
The fundraiser at Strange Matter was a huge success for these groups with over $1,600 raised, and 175 people in attendance with a queue of 50 more outside.
RVA Mag also did a short article here.
RideRichmond also has a post dedicated to the subject and future updates, along with the official proposal and presentation slide deck available for download, the post is here.
The Saddle Sores Bicycle Club is proud to be donating 100% of the proceeds from our next two events to contribute to the Multi-Use Facility. Stay tuned for another Bicycle Safety Dance Party, and a race coming up during Bike-Week in April!

Our next clean-up is tentatively set for February 26th, 2pm. We will be meeting outside of 1008 W. Marshall St. – hope to see you there!

In addition to making some of the best beer on the planet, Legend is an extremely strong supporter of the Saddle Sores Bicycle Club. This year they are turning 17 and celebrating their last year before graduation on February 27th from 3pm to 9pm with food, live music, and beer.
The cost is $20 per person over 21, and $12 for those under 21. That price covers 3 live bands and includes 3 tickets for food and refreshments.
You can be sure Saddle Sores Bike Club will be there in full force!

Benefit for RVA Bike Polo! Come out and support!

We have been featured in a Greater Greater Washington article penned by our very own Jedi Mike, which sums up our Mission Statement as a club and as cyclists in Richmond nicely. As Mr. Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in this world.”
Saddle Sores Bike Club Bike Safety Dance Party was a huge hit. We raised $422 and we’re excited to say that RideRichmond has raised enough money to achieve their Non-Profit status!! This is great news.
A $3-5 suggested donation got you a $35 bike light and a raffle ticket. We raffled off 2 complete bikes, taillights, headlamps, and balaclavas. Stay warm and safe out there!
Here are some photos from the event:

Some cutie-Sores, Malcolm and Becky.

Thanks to the DJs who performed and kept sick beats dropping all night: VKNG, Shmohawxx (Featuring our Malcolm, pictured above), and Beat Down the Kid! (Pictured below.)

The place was packed! Bouncers at Cellar Door had to turn people away…

Who the fuck was Yoshi? LOL

Thanks to everyone who came out! We love you guys!
Second time this year… we’re cleaning Marshall Street routinely and we’d love it if you joined us!

One neighbor said we were going to make him cry! This means as much to them as it does to us, volunteering to adopt the busy artery, or corridor, that is the great Marshall Street. We’ll be out there again in 2 weeks unless the Weather is too much, in which case it’ll be another week. Comment on a blog posting or find us out there between Noon and 2:00PM!
Hey there, Richmond cycling community! CELLAR DOOR, SATURDAY THE 22ND, 10PM! Come on down, a $3-5 suggested donation gets you bike lights and a raffle ticket for awesome prizes from local bicycle companies! Including Carytown Bicycle Company, Re-Cycles, Contes, and BunnyHop! Featuring music by local DJs VKNG and Shmohawxx! BE THERE.
Check out RVA Mag’s endorsement of the event!
Our fourth time cleaning the streets took place Sunday, January 9th, 2011. Streets and sidewalks stretching from MCV to the Greater Richmond Convention Center were surprisingly clean, but Kendall, Gene, and Rocky biked and walked in the icy cold weather the to gather cans, cigarette butts, and damp newspapers.
We hope your 2011 is equally fun and safe.
With love,
THE SADDLE SORES
We decided to treat ourselves to Dinner at Sprout for our end of the year Saddle Sores-only party, this year was the first, and it just so happened to coincide with Gene’s Christmas party. We ate good food and exchanged Secret Santa goodies before heading out.

Mike and Dan ogling, perusing.

Malcolm jumped on the stage at least twice during Dinner to bust-a-move.

Gene, thank you for having us over for a party every year, oh, and every other goddamn time!

We drank this to ourselves for an hour before guests arrived, but when they did it was shared. Thanks for the tasty drank, Legend!

Joelle and Becky, as classy as can be.

Bow-tie Gentlemen.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
LOVE,
THE SADDLE SORES!

We want to take a moment to give thanks to all of our sponsors, fans, friends, and family. Without your support, we couldn’t continue to throw events, races, and activities for the Richmond community. We’re extremely thankful for you, and wish you a very merry Thanksgiving.
With love,
Saddle Sores Bicycle Club
Part two of our forever-going endeavor of cleaning Marshall Street in pursuit of adopting the artery in the name of our club was today, and we had some fun. We took to the streets from Harrison down toward MCV and filled four tall trash bags to the brim. We initially decided to go from Madison to MCV but we saw so much trash along the way we had to pick it up!

A job well done, and now that our second clean-up is complete, we’re growing more excited to see our name among the residences and respective businesses along Marshall Street! Stay tuned because every other week we’re out there cleaning, and all are welcome to join us in that occupation! We love Marshall Street!
